Wire guardians or protectors are incredibly handy for protecting wire or thread when you attach your clasp. Most people think of them only for wire but you can use them with silk, cotton or nylon thread. Wire guardians help keep the thread from fraying and you also get a nice clean finish with a bit of movement between the beads and the clasp.
When using wire guardians with thread rather than wire, a crimp bead and a crimp cover is important. After attaching the crimp bead and squeezing it shut, tie a knot just below and dab on some glue. Then add your crimp cover.
